This garden incorporates perennials and natives to support wildlife which so far has included several mammals, 30 bird species including a pair of mallards that use the pond as their summer home, native and honey bees, dragonflies, mayflies and many other insect species.
The planting beds are bordered by stones from the house that was buried on the vacant lot where the house now sits. The beds also have hidden dog trails running through them to prevent damage from the canine wildlife species that lives here.
For sustainability purposes, some roof rainwater is collected which then flows into the rain garden. The power for pumps and lights comes from solar panels. The owners never use chemical insecticides and most of the time herbicide use inside the garden is done with a vinegar/salt solution.
